Mediation

This program utilizes trained volunteers from Plainsboro and Cranbury Township to help resolve disputes between neighbors, friends, relatives and co-workers.

Mediation

Mediation is a structured and confidential form of negotiation that provides a convenient, fair, and effective way to resolve disputes. Mediators are concerned members of the community who have volunteered their time to provide an effective and timely method for settling disputes. All mediators are approved by the New Jersey Superior Court and are required to complete a training course and to participate in ongoing educational activities. Mediation is free.

If a matter is not settled or if any provision of a settlement is subsequently broken, the complaint will return to Municipal Court for trial. Judge will review each complaint and determine if the case should be sent to mediation.

Mediation is used for less serious disputes that would be heard in municipal court, such as:

  • Harassment
  • Animal Complaints
  • Trespassing
  • Noise complaints
  • Neighbor disputes
  • Simple Assaults
