The Middlesex County Improvement Authority (MCIA) provides recycling services to many municipalities within the County, including Plainsboro. Historically, the County has an extremely successful recycling program, with the MCIA being an integral part. However, during the past several months, residents may have experienced delays with their recycling collection.
According to the MCIA, their contractor, Interstate Waste Services Inc (IWS), is experiencing unprecedented staffing shortages and call outs that may exceed 40 employees on a single day. These issues routinely cause 24 hour delays in recycling being collected and in some instances even longer. IWS is trying to combat these issues through multiple initiatives including working weekends, overtime incentives and monthly bonuses for perfect attendance. Nonetheless, the issues still persist and are not expected to get any better within the near future.
Additionally, the MCIA contacted other companies for assistance. Unfortunately, they’re all experiencing the same issues and are unable to provide any assistance.
On behalf of the MCIA, we ask for your patience and understanding during these difficult times. If you experience problems with your recycling collection, please contact the Department of Public Works at 609-799-0099 or through email, firstname.lastname@example.org
