Are you interested in supporting survivors of domestic violence in your community? Women Aware, and the Plainsboro Township Police Department, are looking for dedicated, compassionate, and professional volunteers to serve on its Domestic Violence Response Team.
The team is composed of trained residents who respond to the police department on an “on call” basis in order to provide emotional support, referrals to Women Aware’s free domestic violence services, community resources and a safety plan to individuals affected by domestic violence. All crisis intervention duties are conducted at the police department.
DVRT volunteers are needed after hours, available on an “on-call” basis, and are activated by their assigned police department’s dispatcher. Additionally, all volunteers must undergo a thorough background check and complete a 40-hour domestic violence training, provided by Women Aware, to be considered. The training for Fall 2018 will take place every Saturday, 9-5, from September 22 to October 20.
